(NaturalNews) A group of teens in the Bay Area recently protested against perfume pollution. The teens wore surgical masks and gas masks and carried signs expressing their anger towards certain toxic perfume ingredients. The teens stormed into an Abercrombie & Fitch store in San Francisco's Westfield Mall, in a peaceful yet effective protest. In retaliation of the teens' efforts, the store closed to all customers. The police were also notified.
"They made us spray the signature scents every 20 minutes like clockwork, so the store always smells," a former Abercrombie & Fitch employee admitted. Just as extra oxygen is supposedly pumped into casinos, many fragrances are often pumped into millions of stores across the globe in order to maintain an appealing scent. These scents contain toxic chemicals that have been linked to a number of conditions. It is surprising that the constant aroma does not largely decrease profits.
Recent tests conducted by the nonprofit advocacy group Campaign for Safe Cosmetics showed that "Fierce", a fragrance made by Abercrombie & Fitch, contains 11 chemicals that are not listed on the ingredients label. Some of these unlisted ingredients are sensitizers which can activate common health ailments such as asthma, headaches, and contact dermatitis.
It is estimated that women put 515 chemicals onto or into their bodies every day. Many ingredients in everyday cosmetics contain chemicals that have been linked to a long list of health problems. It is estimated that less than 20% of chemicals used in these everyday products have been assessed for safety. Many products contain carcinogens and neurotoxins that can cause serious problems such as complications regarding brain development, and even cancer.
The Federal Fair Packaging and Labeling Act of 1973 allows makers of perfumes, colognes, and body sprays to hide the chemicals that comprise their fragrances. These "secret" chemicals are contained in many of the most popular perfumes and colognes, including "Fierce".
It is uplifting to see such strong opposition against synthetic chemicals that are known to harm humans and animals alike. People have a right to know what they are putting on their skin and the risks associated with doing so. The Abercrombie & Fitch upheaval proves that unknowing exposure to "secret" chemicals will not be tolerated, and that many people are in direct opposition to the efforts of Abercrombie & Fitch to fill their stores with synthetic chemicals.

It is true that lot of products, not just scents but every beatuy product, contain some ingredients which have not been advertised in the labes. I think it is really dangerous for us to use them because they can hurt us in many dramatci ways. However, we cannot complain about not having them exposed in laves becasue not lots of people read them. But that is not to say they are doing well, of course not.
ReplyDeleteThey should think a little bit on people’s health and not just in money, because that is what it is all about. More measures should be taken propmtly.
I already knew that some beauty products contained ingredients that weren't really healthy. However, I didn't knew they could cause such dangerous ilnesses. It is hard to believe how people can create products that aren't save only to earn money. It is really sad.
ReplyDeleteFrom my point although I know that most people don't read the labels, every product should have ALL his ingredients in his label. However, the most important thing is to concern the creators of this products about the problems they can cause.
I,m impressed with this article because I didn,t know a beauty product can cause such terrible illness. It,s true that hardly nobody read the labels on the product, and this is an habbit that we should have to prevent this problems. But also, when a product is announce in tv, it seems to be everything perfect, as if it was the best, and they don´t see it can affect someone, they only said us the good things.
ReplyDeleteWhen you buy beauty products you buy them thinking that they'll help your skeen to be brighter, softer, to smell better... And after reading this, knowing that appart from that what they can cause are serious ilnesses is something to be aware of. To be conscious of this we should not read articles, what we should do is read the ingredients of this product and in that way see what exactly are we putting in our body and what it can cause to our health. But hideing undesired information to the client is a very bad way to be professional and I'm pretty sure that it has to be ilegal. I'm glad to know that they won't allow this any more, so in that way the decission of putting unhealthy chemicals in our body is only ours.
ReplyDeleteThese days all the girls and some boys have not only a perfume, they ( we ) have more than one. All of them are made of chemical substances which must be written on the labels but most of the time they are not.
ReplyDeleteI think all the ingredients which are used to make the scents have to appeared on the labels so in that way the consumer know what he / she is putting on or in his / her body.
I ask myself: if those substances are bad for our health why are they used by famous companies to make scents or anything related with our body "beauty" ?
